adhd and having 10 million hobbies and interests
Writing my post from yesterday about my friend calling me the human Google made me think about all of the hobbies I’ve had over the years. Well I don’t know if I could call most of them hobbies per se since most didn’t last more than one month. Hyperfixations might be the better term for it but I’m going to call them hobbies because it makes me sound well-rounded.
I think with us adhd folk this is pretty common because we love to find new and novel things that are interesting to us. We are also natural problem solvers so we like challenges. There’s nothing more new and challenging than learning a new skill. Sometimes executive function stops us but when it doesn’t we go all in.
Some of my hobbies over the past few years that I can think of off the top of my head:
– Resin art
– Embroidery
– Video games (my longest hobby from middle school until 2 years after college)
– Anime
– Making websites
– Blogging (I had like 10 tumblr blogs…)
– Writing (I don’t know if I consider this a hobby since it’s what I want my career to be one day 🙏)
– Traditional and digital art
– Puzzles and recently Crosswords
– Making procreate brushes
I know there’s more but that’s all for now
Hobbies I have yet to explore:
– Knitting or crocheting
– Physical activity like biking or rock climbing
– Gardening/plant care
What are some of your current hyperfixations?
